Quirky Success Support Tool #1 of 2: Burning Desire??? “Fuhgeddaboudit!!!” Maybe you need ‘V.I.P’ power:“Visceral & Incessant Passion”
“I believe that curiosity, wonder and passion are defining qualities of imaginative minds and great teachers; that restlessness and discontent are vital things; and that intense experience and suffering instruct us in ways that less intense emotions can never do.” Kay Redfield Jamison
An “Oversized” Success Quest?
It all starts with a Worthy Goal and, not just your Grandad’s kind of Goal:
To create an “over-sized” aspirational and compelling Success Quest, you need to be empowered and enabled with a commensurate ability, that’s capable of inspiring and motivating you enough, to successfully “push and pull,” yourself, and all your “moving parts,” to victory and into the winner’s circle. In order for you to accomplish this, you’re going to need to place your emotions on the other side of the borders & boundaries of your comfort zone.
How do you know when you’ve crossed the border & boundaries of your comfort zone? If you’re not experiencing some degree of physical and/or mental discomfort, you haven’t crossed over that border and those boundaries and, you have more work to do.
An “Over-the-Top- 3-Dot” Moment Alert:
Your mission is to poke, provoke and create. . . the Visceral & Incessant Passion (VIP). . .that ironically incites & fans the flames of frustration and discontent. . . while powering up the positive energy. . . that has the utmost potentiality to bring forth and generate. . . the “Sustainable and Manageable Progress” that you need. . . in order to achieve your objectives and more importantly. . . to help you conquer and bypass outside contradictory and divergent forces, setbacks, obstacles and deterrents.
Two questions:
1-Are your daytime and nighttime dreams made up of visions of the life you want or, are they made up of visceral visions of the life you unequivocally and inexorably must have?
2-Are your visions powerful and intense enough to drag your soul, spirit, your essence and, your reality and actuality, across all the boundaries and borders of your comfort zone?
A Mindful Moment: Consciously and Purposefully choosing between “Pursuing a Success Quest strategy dipped in Desire vs. Pursuing a Success Quest strategy drenched in Passion,” should always depend on the “Bigness” of the “Success Quest” you’re going on.
Contemplate this: It’s extremely advantageous to determine, and potentially perilous, to not determine, what level of energy and determination is needed to keep your Success Quest powered up. . . before you start your Success Quest.
The Bottom Line: If you continue on your Success Quest and irresponsibly leave this “determination” step on the side of the road, you’ll be traveling at your own extreme risk. I’d like to share with you, a simple multi-step strategic process that enables me to move forward with the confidence and comfort, that I will have what I need, when I need it.
“Succestimate Protocol”
The Key Factor for a Victorious Success Quest is “Preparation” :
You must start the preparation process by first understanding and being mindful of what success means to you, how badly you want it and what you’re willing to do to achieve it and, you must determine what “physical and mental tools” you’ll need to achieve victory on your Success Quest?
The Key Factor in the “mental” column is the question of your attitude, disposition and inclinations. The following definitions will provide a simple “express guide” or “ a mental selfie” of the magnitude of your aspirations and, what they will require from you before launching your Success Quest.
The Key Question: Do you want and desire success or, are you so passionate about succeeding that you must have it no matter what?
This will be a “spot-check” for the kind of simple tweaking, or major overhaul needed, by your desire or passion to ensure that your attitude, disposition and inclination is “running” commensurate with the “bigness” of your Success Quest and, it will be a “spot check” to determine the ability of your attitude, disposition and inclination, to get you over the finish line.
Your Simple “Express Selfie” Guide
1-Definition of “Desire”: A strong feeling of wanting to have something or wishing for something to happen.
DESIRE – to want something PASSION – the refusal to live without something.
“I Want success. I’m going to try and go for it and, I’ll see what happens.”
With an attitude, disposition and inclination of ,“I would like to try to be a Billionaire”, you’ll need a major mental overhaul.
Of course after you weigh the risks and evaluate your resources you could certainly still go for it but, just wanting, wishing or not “playing ball” with reality will make it a burdensome quest and drain you and your resources.
On the positive side, if you continue on, you probably broke through a barrier and energized your desire, transforming it into “passion.” Also. . . If you continue on, you never know what could happen, what you may learn about yourself or, who you’ll meet that could possibly complement your talent and desire.
Don’t give up right away. Review, learn, Revise and, adjust the odds. They can be changed. You could also lower your expectations, start small and then, just work towards achieving modest “progress” every day to build up to where you really want to be. This is dancing with reality instead of fighting it.
2-Definition of “Passion”: Intense, high intensity, driving, extreme force, degree or strength, enormous zeal and fortitude, true grit.
PASSION – the refusal to live without something. DESIRE – to want something
“That’s who I am and, I will be victorious on my success quest no matter how long it takes. I will not give up, or give in, until I get there. There’s always a way and I’ll find it.”
With an attitude of “I wanna be a billionaire so freakin’ bad,” . . . your chances are very good that you’ll get to or very near your goal.
There are no guarantees of course and, there are also several danger zones here as well. Over confident, extreme aggressiveness and not working with reality are a few danger zones to watch for. There is a solution here as well. I’m going to get to that.
3-Definition of “Intensity”: Passionate, Great energy, strength, concentration, vehemence, etc., as in activity, thought, or feeling: The quality or state of an extreme degree of strength, force, energy, or feeling. Having or showing strong feelings or opinions; extremely earnest or serious.
Intense people often get told to “lighten up,” or “calm down,” which is a waste of time and can really irritate them. Someone driven with intensity cannot simply change their behavior at the drop of a hat.
They are forceful, strong-willed, and often very productive and passionate. The best way to communicate with intense people is to get your facts lined up and hear them out before you engage them.
Chances are that these people have done their homework and they know what needs to be done to get them to where they want to go. If you’re going to question them or challenge them, you better have done your due diligence and have solid information to back up your challenge.
Intense and Passionate? The Apple Ad Said it Best:
Here’s to the crazy ones.
The misfits.
The rebels.
The troublemakers.
The round pegs in the square holes.
The ones who see things differently.
They’re not fond of rules. And they have no respect for the status quo. You can praise them, disagree with them, quote them, disbelieve them, glorify or vilify them. About the only thing that you can’t do is ignore them. Because they change things.
They invent. They imagine. They heal.
They explore. They create. They inspire.
They push the human race forward. Maybe they have to be crazy. How else can you stare at an empty canvas and see a work of art? Or sit in silence and hear a song that’s never been written? Or gaze at a red planet and see a laboratory on wheels? And while some may see them as the crazy ones, we see genius. Because the ones who are crazy enough to think that they can change the world, are the ones who do.”
“Tamping It Down or Turning It Up?”
Desire or Passion? There’s no need to be cavalier and blindly and mindlessly take a chance and get it wrong. You’ve got too little determination? Frustration and regret set in. You’ve got too much determination? You set your world upside down and piss off all the “right” people that you need.
The good news? Either condition is manipulable.
It’s simple and, it’s all about ‘Tamping It Down or Turning It Up?’
A Mindful Moment: The prerequisites for a successful ‘Tamping It Down or Turning It Up’ strategic operation is Self-Honesty, Authenticity With Others, Extreme Inquisitiveness, Patience and, Absolute and Unequivocal Perseverance.
Successfully ‘Tamping It Down or Turning It Up? It could take a few minutes, a few days or even a longer period of time, to resolve and restore a disconnect between what you need emotionally and psychologically and, what your current situational status is calling for.
Let me explain. But first, a little more about the rowdy side of “Passion”
Being truly passionate about your Success Quest is characterized by heightened and intense feelings, a constant stream of both positive and negative feelings — anger, pain, distress, despair, fear, excitement, love, sadness or happiness sometimes mixture of many at the same time.
Sometimes, feelings can become so powerful and compelling that the person would feel out of control, losing the ability to think straight, or to the point where it feels unbearable. This would be an extreme pivotal moment and, the time for a major retreat, retrospection and modification adventure.
Don’t fear the “negatives,” they’re the ones that supply the hi-octane for the passion. They’re not the “bad guys.” Think of them as your personal power source known as the “Provocation & Irritation Emotions” (PIE).
When the ‘PIE’ knock, let them in. Let them wash over you. Welcome them. Never fight to move them out until, you’ve taken them to a quiet place to see what they want. These feelings hold the answers to the majority of any and all questions you might have. They are there to help you and guide you.
Ask them questions out loud. I’m very serious.
For this strategic Q &A session, you need to have the “prerequisites” firing on all cylinders or, it will not be productive: Self-Honesty, Authenticity With Others, Extreme Inquisitiveness, Patience and, Absolute and Unequivocal Perseverance.
Try Asking: Why are you making me feel this way? What happened right before I started to feel this way? Is it something I did or was it something someone said or did to me? Ask questions with the 5 W’s + H+ W (who, what, where, when, why, how and which one) and don’t stop.
Examples: Who was involved? What happened? Where did it take place? When did it take place? Why did that happen? How can I fix it? Which way is the best way?
It’s all about using a “balancing management” Success Support tool to keep that positive outer shell in check, while adjusting and maintaining an inciteful inner shell, otherwise known as your “Passion.” If it’s one of the PIE emotions like anger, walking around looking and feeling angry will get you nowhere. Time to tamp down the “Passion.”
Feeling discomfort or feeling extreme mental pain and anguish? This is your personal warning apparatus doing what it should be doing. This is the point where you use it, or “dial it back,” and consciously and purposefully open up your safety valve known as “Temperance or Tamping it Down.” How much? You’ll know once you’ve determined the source of your discomfort and pain.
Passion or Desire? Don’t listen to anyone else but your “physiology” and “Gut.” It’s got to work for you first and then, you can adjust & adapt it to the people and things around you.
Headaches, stomach aches, heart aches? These are your advisors? Do you need to tamp things down and dial it back? Is this the time to retreat, rest and review? Is it time to retreat and start something new? Is it time to connect with qualified people for whatever help and support you may need? Is it time to quit?
Answers to these questions will help you determine if there is appropriate parity in the relationship between the “bigness” of your success quest plans and, your mental acumen, tolerance and resilience.
From a Success Quest that calls for working and saving up for a vacation, to building a billion-dollar business with a new innovative idea that you came up with, the “bigness” of your Success Quest determines everything.
Your level of Desire or Passion will determine how big you’ll be able to go or how much guidance and support you’ll need.
The good news? The state or condition of your Desire or Passion, can adapt to your current situation by you taking some simple steps to help jumpstart an “Assessment, Adjustment, Adaption Procedure” (AAA).
JUST A REMINDER: For the following 4-step strategic procedure, you will also need to embrace the same “prerequisites” as before or, you will not produce the favorable results that you’re looking for. You need: Self-Honesty, Authenticity With Others, Extreme Inquisitiveness, Patience and, Absolute and Unequivocal Perseverance.
This four-step “Assessment, Adjustment, Adaption Procedure” (AAA), that’s a powerful Success Support Tool, will assist you in “Tamping it Down or Turning it Up” in order to be victorious on your Success Quest.
“Assessment, Adjustment, Adaption Procedure” (AAA),
Track #1-Planning & Preparation Review 1-Are you reviewing and following your planning and preparation notes every day. Do they need to be adjusted? Are you on the right track to achieving your ultimate objective and purpose? How do you find answers to these types of powerful fact-finding questions? The “The S.I.P Apparatus.”
Tips & Tools Moment
“The S.I.P Apparatus”- The Triadic Force of Information Extraction: ‘Scrutinizing, Inquiring & Probing’
Scrutinizing: Examine or inspect closely and thoroughly.
Inquiring: Showing an interest in learning new things.
Probing: seek to uncover information about someone or something.
“Scrutinizing, Inquiring and Probing,” the 3 most indomitable, compelling and transformative Success Support Tools in your Success Support Arsenal. The compelling power source of all three, is the almighty “Question.”
Ask Questions incessantly (Long Live Columbo) and never stop asking questions until you’re reasonably comfortable that you achieved a smooth landing after “Tamping it Down” or a successful launch after “Turning it Up.”
Track #2-Progress Review: Your daily goal to achieve your ultimate goal should be: “Make a comfortable and reasonable amount of relevant progress every day.” Progress, even slow progress every day, is always better than standing still.
Did you make progress today? If not why not? Fix it. When on your Success Quest, Big or small, constant vigilance is essential. You need to be in “touch” with your Success Quest. Always be asking questions about and, reviewing your progress all the time.
Use the “S.I.P Apparatus to tune up or turn down anything that needs to be “Assessed, Adjusted and Adapted (AAA).”
Track #3– People Support- We’ll cover this in Chapter #2: People could be the source of your off-Kilter Passion or Desire. . .or not. You need people in one way or another. They could be instrumental in helping you to develop and maintain your balanced Passion/Desire/Success Ratio or, they could be responsible for your utter frustration or, misdirection of the profound focus that you need.
Track #4-Too Much? Too Little?- Depending on your “tolerance level for change & adaption” this Track #4 could be used for moving up the intensity of your “existing intense passion” as well as moving your desire or passion, up or down, to needed support levels.
There are always multiple realities involved in relational situations. The only “reality” that really matters is the “situational reality”, in other words “what the hell is really, really happening around you and beyond”.
Your Mission: Get a handle on your personal perceived reality as compared to what the reality of the situation looks like. Ask other people what they see. They have their own realities, but you must ask probing questions to get you to a mutual situational reality station where everyone is comfortable and agreeable on.
If not:
The importance of comprehending and discerning “your reality vs. the situational reality,” as described in previous steps, is crucial to your personal or business success. You cannot make someone else understand a message they are not ready or able to receive, due to dissimilar perceptions and discernments of the central situational reality.
Moving On:
You’ve done your retrospection. You finally “see” what your reality looks like in relation to the central situational reality. You now know what you need to do: “Tamp it down or Turn it Up?
SIDE BAR: “Tamp it down or Turn it Up? Two different strategies but both call for manipulation of your relationships, attitude, disposition and inclinations. The “Relational Manipulations and Purge Strategy” will be covered in Chapter #2
Here’s a Success Support Tool for you to use. Meet the 3R’s Concept: Retreat-Review, Reevaluate, Recommence.
No mistake here. A concept called the 3R’s with 4R’s? Please read on.
Determining how much or how little you should “Tamp it down or Turn it Up” and, how to achieve it:
1- Retreat: Control your environment with a vengeance. The power of relevant information starts with clarity of purpose. Clarity comes with a rested mind and body.
Retreat is not failure and it’s not giving up. It’s taking a break. It’s taking a rest. It’s “kicking the noise to the curb” and taking control of your personal environment, your personal space.
2- Retrospection: Your immediate short-term goal is achieving “Clarity” regarding what you need to replenish the energy to move forward. To not give up.
It’s taking stock of your attitude, disposition and inclinations. It’s checking to see if you still have the mental fortitude to get over the finish line.
3-Revitalize: You just may need “Time.” Time to catch your breath. Time to calm down. Time to get more pissed off. Time to be selfish and do everything that’s good for you.
4-Resume: Don’t rush. Take your time. Make sure you feel comfortable and confident that you are ready to fight the good fight again.
Desire or your Passion. What actually gets you out of bed in the morning? Pick one. Is it still energized? Is it waning or is it out of control? What’s needed, temperance or revitalization? Reviewing your progress is essential for both Desire and Passion and, it’s the answer to making them both work for you no matter what the circumstances are.
When on your Success Quest, big or small, constant vigilance is essential. You need to be in “touch” with your Success Quest. Always be asking questions about and, reviewing, your progress all the time. Never Give Up and Never Give In and, You Will Not Fail.
